Towns and villages in Upper Austria you should take note of
Who has never experienced it? The places you fall in love with at first glance. Was it a picturesque place with a lake in the background in the Salzkammergut? Or was it a stop-off o the Danube Bike Path with an idyllic view of the river? Or was it perhaps the view from the Linz's Schlossmseum over the roofs of the city?
Upper Austria offers lots of cities and towns suitable for holidays. Where you “end up” depends on your own character and taste. Maybe in the capital of Linz, the European Capital of Culture in 2009. It offers an exciting combination of culture, nature and industry. The city of Steyr, which attained wealth by trading iron, is the gate to the Kalkalpen National Park. And Wels, the city at the geographic centre of Upper Austria, was even the capital of an entire province in Roman times. And then we have the smaller, but no less charming cities: Gmunden, the postcard idyll on Lake Traun. The imperial city of Bad Ischl. The Baroque pearl of Schärding. And the list goes on and on...
Amongst the small towns are lots of places that can immediately conquer travellers’ hearts. Who doesn’t know the World Cultural Heritage backdrop of Hallstatt or the view across the lake to St Wolfgang? The valley location of Windischgarsten is just as charming as that of Grein, directly on the Danube. You will probably need more than just one trip to see all the beauties in Upper Austria.
