Liebstatt Sunday

Romance comes in the form of sweet-tasting and lovingly decorated gingerbread hearts in Gmunden - and can sweep that special someone right off her/his feet and into your arms!

"Liebstatt Sunday" is derived from "Liebe abstatten" (meaning "to convey love"). This custom dates back to the 17th century, when the wealthy citizens of Gmunden invited their poorer fellows to a common meal on the fourth Sunday in Lent. Gmunden's favorite tradition is held annually on the fourth Sunday in Lent. This year’s Liebstatt Sunday in Gmunden falls on March 14, 2010.
