Biennale Cuvée
The Upper Austria OK Cultural Center is proud to announce "Biennale Cuvée", a selection from the most interesting biennials of 2008 with an emphasis on the Asian biennials.
In cooperation with Linz09 European Capital of Culture, the O.K Center for Contemporary Art brings a selection of artistic projects from the most important international biennials of the year 2008 to Linz.
Biennials are today’s most interesting showcases of contemporary art. Less commercially oriented than art fairs, they are a stage both for "big names" and young, up-and-coming artists, for whom this is perhaps their first chance to present their work on the international stage. They define who is going to be in the spotlight, they identify trends and they even create them. Their greatest merit lies in arousing a great deal of attention for contemporary art in a public that extends beyond the regulars on the art fair circuit.
Within a series of projects entitled "Kunst in die Stadt!!" (Arts into the City!!) BIENNALE CUVÉE 2009 will use the OK itself as well as the city’s public space as venues. Above all the newly constructed environs of the Linz railway station will host exhibitions of contemporary art. The selected projects will be assigned their respective locations on formal-architectural or content-based grounds. A series of lectures and a comprehensive exchange program will enhance appreciation of this ambitious gymkhana of the arts.
The exhibition offers visitors an insight into the international art world and an opportunity for a condensed experience of contemporary art. The project will be partnered by public and private institutions that will allow use of their houses and take part in shaping the content during the development phase: Venues are the O.K Center for Contemporary Art (February 27 through April 26, 2009); the Upper Austrian Arbeiterkammer (March 13 through May 15, 2009); the Energie AG Building (March 13 through May 15, 2009) and the Wissensturm (March 13 through April 26, 2009).
