Eventhighlights 2013 in Upper Austria and Linz
2013 is all about music in Upper Austria and its capital Linz, drawing inspiration from the Salzkammergut, the Danube and as European Capital of Culture 2009. Festivals from classic to contemporary in concert halls or open air await you in Anton Bruckner, Parov Stelar and Franz Welser Möst's home region. Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote great compositions, Franz Lehar spent some time and electronic music was born here.
In April 2013 the curtain will be raised for the first time at the new Linz Opera. Linz will then provide Europe's latest opera house in future. The prelude is held by Philip Glass and Richard Strauss with Wagner's Nibelungs will arrive in Linz in autumn.
The Linz Pflasterspektakel (July 18th to 20th 2013) is one of Europe's largest street festivals for performing arts. More than 400 performers - acrobats, magicians, clowns and musicians - make the downtown area their stage for three days.
Ars Electronica Festival:
The Ars Electronica Festival ( September 5th to 9th 2013) is the world's leading forum for media art. The "Golden Nica" by Prix Ars Electronica is the most sought after honouring for media performers accordingly.
Each year in late summer the sound clouds form over the Danube Park. They always come in a party of three: The visualized sound cloud utilizes Danube and the Linz Skyline for enactment. The children's sound cloud is tailored for young listeners. The classic sound cloud opens the Bruckner festival.
There you go! Such dimensions as in 2013 (September 15th to October 6th) has the Bruckner festival never had before. Apart from local players of the Linz Bruckner Orchestra there will be concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Dresden.
